Pet Odors?

Urine Soiling

Pet urine can cause damage to your floors and fabrics. It can also create an unhealthy indoor environment. Some technical tips on urine: When urine is first excreted, it is on the acid side of the pH scale and very easily removed. Within hours of being exposed to oxygen it turns to an alkaline pH. When this happens it will continue to increase in alkalinity to the point of becoming practically ammonia. This explains the ammonia like odor. At this stage it dramatically affects the dye structure of the carpet– causing permanent staining. Even if the soluble deposits are removed, the damage to the dye structure could already be done. **This means that no one can guarantee complete removal of all urine spots. Please consult with your technician if you have questionable urine spots on your carpet.

To prevent permanent staining in the future clean urine spots immediately by blotting with a white terry cloth towel or plain white paper towels until no moisture is transferred.

To clean the urine spot: Mix 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water and clean with a white terry cloth. Once you have “flushed” as much of the urine out as possible, blot with dry cloths until dry to the touch. *If you have a small extraction machine, it would be ideal to use it. Flush with fresh water until spot is removed. * DO NOT USE OVER THE COUNTER SPOT REMOVERS, EXTRACTION DETERGENT, OR ALL-PURPOSE CLEANERS ON URINE! YOU MAY SET THE SPOT PERMANENTLY! IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE REMOVING IT, CALL US.

NOTE: Cleaning existing urine spots WILL NOT remove any associated odor. In fact, could INCREASE the odor in the air space for a temporary period of time. FOR PET ODOR REMOVAL SERVICES, PLEASE CONSULT your technician for your best option.

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?

Major Odor Control Treatment – 100% Guaranteed

This is a very in-depth and thorough process. First, a pre-inspection will be conducted with an ultra-violet light. Second, the carpet will be disengaged and the affected pad will be removed. Third, an anti-microbial will be applied to the back of the carpet and to the sub-floor. Fourth, a sealant barrier will be applied to the sub-floor and new pad will be installed. When this is complete we will then re-install the carpet. As the last step, we will thoroughly clean and restore the carpeted areas.

Minor Odor Control Treatment

Though not guaranteed, This is a more cost-effective option. It is not guaranteed to eliminate the entire odor problem, due to the amount of materials involved. For example: the carpet, pad, and the sub-floor. However, it is effective in easing the odor, and in many cases eliminating the odor altogether. First, a pre-inspection will be conducted with an ultra-violet light. Mineral deposits and alkaline salts in the urine will become florescent under the ultra-violet light. Second, under the ultra-violet light we will strategically flood those affected areas with an enzyme. The enzyme will digest the bacteria in the urine that causes the odor. We will then wait 24 hrs, and return on a second visit. On the second visit, the carpet will be thoroughly cleaned.
